Demons

Demons are fallen Angels who are mastered over by Lucifer the Morning star, who was once one of the most beloved Angels of God and due to his corruption and evil devices has been cast down into the Pit of Fire that we refer to as Hell. From here he comands and oversees all that is evil and un-healthy in the world.

The term 'demon' is derived ultimately from the Sanskrit root div ('to shine'), through the Greek daimon ('divine power'). To the Greeks daimons were intermediary spirits between humans and the Gods.

Demons that concern themselves with the affairs of man, hate and resent man for being created in God's own image and for what the demons believe as Gods favoritism of man over God's own Angels, "was not God's own Son born to a mortal women?" the demons ask.

In Christianity, demons are associated only with evil. They include those demons who were cast out of heaven together with Lucifer, as well as pagan deities branded as demons by the church. Demons devote themselves to tormenting human beings, assaulting them, sexually abusing them, and possessing them. The possibility of sex with demons was denied before the twelfth century, but by the later Middle Ages belief in sexually voracious demons in alluring male or female form who preyed on sleeping men and women (see Incubus, Succubus) become widely accepted. In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries in Europe witches were regularly accused of having sex with demons (see Sabbat). It was held that demons could be expelled or kept at bay by the ritual of exorcism, or by the use of certain prayers, or a special charm, or by wearing an amulet or talisman.

It is believed that the demons are trying to take over the Earth, which they feel should rightfully be under their control.,enslaving mankind and devouring their souls. Forcing or enticing man to worship all demons and turn his back on The Creator.
For this worship demons will offer gifts of pleasure and power...
at least at first...

A word of caution.....it is wise not to utter the names of those from the Infernal Realm out loud, for it is
believed that it can possibly attract their attention and further un-wanted interest on their part, directed
at the one whom spoke the name.

The following pages contain my version of the hierarchy of demons as I understand it.
It is but one of many versions of the hierarchy which was a vital element of the medieval
black magic handbooks or "grimoires".
Magicians of the past believed that these names actually designate a particular infernal demon,
many modern magi prefer to interpet them as names for forces of nature, the same being said for gods and angels.

AAMON	Aamon is a duke who governs 40 Legions of spirits. He usually appears as a wolf with a serpent's tail & firey breath. If requested, he can take human form with a raven's head & sometimes with dog teeth. He knows of the past & can predict the future, as well as help to reconcile disputes between friends.
ABIGAR
ADRAMELECH	Lord Chancelor of Hell and steward of satan's private council, ADRAMELECH displays pride in his position and perhaps a stubborn streak by taking the form of a mule with peacock feathers.
AGALIAREPT	The Grand General
AGARES	will sometimes take the form of an old man.. He will carry a Goshawk upon his wrist, and rides upon a great crocodile. Agares is capable of revealing the future, but he will talk in riddles and can not be trusted to utter the truth. His words can not be proved as untrue until long after his dismissal.
AMALEQH	The Great Demon
AMEMON
ASMODEUS	King Asmoday is the spirit who governs 72 Legions. He appears with three heads: a bull, a man, & a ram. He also has a serpent's tail, webbed feet & spits fire from his mouth. He usually sits upon a dragon & holds a lance with a banner. He is first under the power of Amaymon. Astaroth teaches the arts of arithmetic, astronomy, geometry, & handicrafts. He also answers any questions, can make man invisible, & can lead man to treasure.
ASTAROTH	Grand Duke Astaroth is the spirit who governs 40 Legions. He appears as a hurtful angel riding a dragonlike beast & carrying a viper in his right hand. Those who summon him need the Magical Ring to guard against Astaroth's breath. He gives true answers, knows of past, present & future events, can discover secrets, & can also describe the fall of himself & the other spirits. He also teaches liberal sciences.

BAAL	Prince
BAEL	Bael is King of the East & rules over 66 Legions of spirits. He can take the shape of a cat, toad, man, & sometimes all three at once. His power is invisibility.
BARBADOS	Barbados is a duke who governs 30 Legions of spirits. He usually appears with 4 noble kings & their armies in the guise of a horned hunter or archer, when the Sun is in Sagittary. He can decipher what animals are saying, open magically protected treasures, knows of past things, can predict the future, & can council those in power.
BATHIM	Bathin governs 30 Legions. He appears as a strong man with a serpent's tail & sitting upon a pale colored horse. He knows of herbology & of precious stones, & has the ability to transport men from one country to another.
BEELZEBUB	whos name means "lord of the flies
BEHEMOTH	patron of gluttony and greed, he serves as hell's wine steward. he may take the form of a variety of large animals including an elephant, his tread is said to cause earthquakes
BELIAL	Duke
BELPHEGOR	sometimes depicted as a young girl he is dubbed the demon of sloth. lazy sorcerers appeal to him to provide them with easy wealth or the ability to invent labor saving devices
BOTIS	Botis governs 60 Legions. He appears as a Viper, but upon request, will take on human form with great teeth & 2 horns, & carries a sword. He knows of things past & future & can reconcile friends & foes.
BOUL
BUER	this multilimbed fiend, who moves like a rolling wheel, supposedly instructs his summoners in philosophy and logic. he also provides good servants and cures the ill. Buer appears in and like Sagittary when the Sun is there. He teaches moral & natural philosophy, logic art, & herbology. He also can calm distempers in man. He governs 50 Legions of Spirits.
CAACRINOLAS	a kind of dog headed griffin, CAACRINOLAS is said to predict the future. he can also render humans invisible and incite them to murder.
